Overnight parking on public roads are permitted, with the exception that you park no less than 1 kilometre from a built-up area. Other rules are as follows:

- 50 metres away from main roads
- 150 metres away from where drinking water is obtained
Note that Milan has ZTL zones, meaning parking anywhere in that sphere would land you a fine. To avoid this, you might want to purchase a Zone C ticket. To simplify this, check the colours in Milan’s parking areas: if it’s in white, it’s free for you to park in. If it’s in blue, it’s available, but you’d have to pay. And if it’s in yellow, then that parking zone is just reserved for residents.
